Southampton City Training is delighted to be recognised for the hard work carried out to promote Apprenticeships in the Hampshire area and to have won the South East Region Press Coverage for Apprenticeship Week 2010.
The £1000 prize money will be spent on sponsoring a local football team.
Apprenticeship Week 2010 was a great success for City Training in raising the profile of the Apprenticeship scheme to young people, employers, providers and all those involved with Apprenticeship programmes.
The week is organised by the National Apprenticeship Service and aims to celebrate the talents and skills of apprentices.
The City Training events schedule was large and varied and included:
· Group talks to full time students at City College
· “A day in the life of an apprentice” by SEEDA Chairman Rob Douglas
· Apprenticeship Surgeries in The Mall, City College
· City Horizons & City Training stand at West Quay
· Apprenticeship Protest by City Horizon learners
· Hairdressing & Barbering demonstrations by current apprentices
· Interview with Lynda Christie, Business Development Manager, on Play Radio
· Apprentice met Tony Robinson at “History of Apprenticeships” at Portsmouth Dockyard
Dave Murley, Director of City Training and Employer Engagement said:
“At City Training, we are always looking at innovative and fresh ways of raising the visibility of apprenticeships as well as highlighting the benefits.
The recent apprenticeship week provided all at City Training the perfect platform to do just that and, it's fair to say that all involved certainly did their bit for apprenticeships!
We had all sorts of activities from: friendly demos in the centre of Southampton by young people saying they are ready, willing and able to be apprentices through to pictures of apprentices and staff with 'Baldrick' at a regional event highlighting the historical importance and benefits of apprenticeships!
I am very proud of all staff and apprentices at City Training who were involved and I know a lot of work, and coercion, took place so would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank them for ensuring the week was a huge success.”
This is a great achievement for The City College Group as a whole.
