City Horizons
Foundation Learning Programme
What is Foundation Learning?
From January 2010 City Horizons will be offering a new exciting and innovative Foundation Learning programme.
The programme is aimed at 16 to 18 years old who are not in education, employment or training and are looking to enter full time employment or to undertake an apprenticeship.
The programme is also open to those looking to enter further education to improve their career prospects. The programme is designed to help young people explore various career options and allow them to make informed decisions in relation to where they want to go in the future.
Foundation Learning is centred on three distinct areas
- Personal Development
- Functional Skills
- Vocational Training
Personal Development
This part of the programme will explore the skills required to enter the working world and is broken into two parts. A BTEC Award in Working Skills will be completed first and after successful completion of this a BTEC Certificate can be pursued.
Aspects involved will be CV writing, Job Searching Skills and Interview techniques. However these sessions will also explore a wide range of issues that are a fundamental part of moving into employment, such as understanding Employer Rights and Responsibilities and the importance of working as team.
Our team of trainers will also look at issues such as drug awareness, personal safety and healthy eating which are aimed at helping young people reach their full potential.
Functional Skills
A good understanding of Maths, English and ICT are essential in all aspect of life today. This part of the programme is centred around these core skills needed for the workplace and learning how to apply them to the working environment.
