The Accounting (AAT) Apprenticeship is delivered over a 1 year period. You will attend college one day a week.
The aim of the Apprenticeship is to give a rounded education and training to people wanting to enter the world of accountancy.
When you start out in a career in Accountancy you will probably find yourself in the role of an Accounts Clerk. You will help to keep financial records and help to prepare accounts in all types of business.
Typical duties will include:
· Balancing accounts
· Processing sales invoices, receipts and payments
· Completing VAT returns
· Preparing wages and processing expenses claims
· Giving administrative support to Accountants
In larger companies, you will work as part of an accounts team and you may specialise in one area, for example pay roll.
You will need to be confident working with numbers, with good spoken and written communication skills. You will need to have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail and have a mature attitude, as honesty and discretion are very important.

NVQ Level 2 – For learners new to this profession
Mandatory Units (all to be taken):
· Recording income and receipts
· Making and recording payments
· Preparing ledger balances and an initial trial balance
· Supplying information for management control
· Working with computers
· Contribute to the maintenance of a healthy, safe and productive working environment
· Achieving personal effectiveness
Extras:
· Employments rights and responsibilities
· Technical Certificate in the form of Central Assessments through AAT
· Level 2 Key Skill in Communication
· Level 1 Key Skill in Application of Number
ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME
NVQ Level 3
Mandatory Units (all to be taken):
· Maintaining financial records and preparing accounts
· Recording and evaluating costs and revenues
· Preparing reports and returns
· Working with computers (may have achieved at Level 2)
· Contribute to the maintenance of a healthy, safe and productive working environment (may have achieved at Level 2)
