The Business Administration Apprenticeship is delivered over approximately a one year period. You will attend college one day a week.

As a Business Administration Apprentice your role will be to deal with the day-to-day office work for your employer.

Your tasks will typically include:

·         Dealing with incoming and out going post

·         Maintaining stationery supplies

·         Answering the telephone and directing calls

·         Reception duties such as greeting and looking after visitors

·         Filing

·         Managing diaries

·         Typing and formatting documents such as letters and reports

You will be based in an office environment and typically work 35 – 40 hours a week.

You will need to have good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team. You will need good computer literacy skills, and have a methodical and organised approach.

Job Roles: Administrative Assistant, Receptionist, Human Resources Assistant, Secretary, Personal Assistant

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME
NVQ Level 2 – For learners new to this profession

Mandatory Units (all to be taken):

·         Carry out your responsibilities at work

·         Work within your business environment

3 Optional Units must then be taken out of the following:

·         Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health & safety (ENTO)

·         Maintain customer relations

·         Manage diary systems

·         Organise business travel and accommodation

·         Deal with visitors

·         Process customer financial transactions

·         Operate credit control procedures (FSSC)

·         Store, retrieve and archive information

·         Research and report information

·         Organise and support meetings

·         Use IT Systems (IT User, level 2)

·         Use IT to exchange information (IT User, level 2)

·         Use word processing software (IT User, level 2)

·         Use spreadsheet software (IT User, level 2)

·         Use database software (IT User, level 2)

·         Use presentation software (IT User, level 2)

·         Use specialist or bespoke software (IT User, level 2)

·         Use a telephone system

·         Operate office equipment

·         Prepare text from notes

·         Prepare text from shorthand

·         Prepare text from recorded audio instructions

·         Produce documents

·         Work effectively with other people

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP
NVQ Level 3 – For learners who are working as or aspiring to be a supervisor

Mandatory Units (all to be taken):

·         Carry out your responsibilities at work

·         Work within your business environment

4 Optional Units must then be taken out of Optional Unit Groups A & B. Either 1 unit from Group A and 3 from Group B, OR 4 units from Group B:

Group A:

·         Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health & safety (ENTO)

·         Manage diary systems

·         Organise business travel and accommodation

·         Use IT Systems (IT User, level 2)

·         Use IT to exchange information (IT User, level 2)

·         Use database software (IT User, level 2)

·         Use presentation software (IT User, level 2)

·         Use specialist or bespoke software (IT User, level 2)

·         Prepare text from notes

Group B:

·         Supervise an office facility

·         Procure products and services

·         Manage and evaluate customer relations

·         Manage the payroll function (AOSG)

·         Complete year-end procedures (AOSG)

·         Monitor information systems

·         Plan & run projects

·         Research, analyse and report information

·         Plan, organise and support meetings

·         Make a presentation

·         Organise and coordinate events

·         Use word processing software (IT User, level 3)

·         Use spreadsheet software (IT User, level 3)

·         Use website software (IT User, level 2)

·         Use artwork and imaging software (IT User, level 2)

·         Design and produce documents

·         Plan, implement innovation and change

·         Develop productive working relationships with colleagues

·         Provide leadership for your team

·         Prepare text from shorthand

·         Prepare text from recorded audio instruction
