Construction Contracting

The Construction Contracting Advanced Apprenticeship is delivered over a 2 and a half year period. You will attend college one day a week.

As a Construction Contracting Apprentice you will help to secure building and refurbishment contracts. You will also help to manage projects through to completion, keeping them on time and within budget.

Contracts could include:

-      Commercial office developments

-      Public sector housing regeneration

-      Road or rail engineering works

You main responsibilities will be to help with the following:

·         Meeting with clients to get a fuller idea of their needs

·         Putting together estimates, including budgets and timescales

·         Preparing and presenting documents for tenders

·         Contributing to work planning and briefing project teams, contractors and suppliers

·         Gathering all information together for invoicing at the end of the project

You will work closely with other construction professionals including construction managers, quantity surveyors and planning engineers. You will be mainly office based but would make regular site and client visits.

You will need knowledge of the contracting processes and an understanding of technical building requirements. The ability to establish and maintain good working relationships, along with strong maths and IT skills is also important.

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME
NVQ Level 3 in Construction Contracting

Mandatory Units (all to be taken):

·         Operate health, safety and welfare systems

·         Prepare programmes and schedules of work

·         Develop and maintain working relationships of personal development

3 Optional Units must then be taken out of the following:

·         Estimating

·         Buying

·         Planning

·         Surveying

·         Site Technical Support

·         General

Technical Certificate: BTEC National Certificate in Construction

Mandatory Units (all to be taken):

·         Health, safety and welfare in construction and the built environment

·         Construction and environment

·         Mathematics in construction and the built environment

·         Construction technology and design in construction and civil engineering

·         Built technology in construction

6 Optional Units must then be taken out of a choice of:

·         Planning, Organisation and Control of Resources in Construction and the
Built Environment

·         Graphical Detailing in Construction and the Built Environment

·         Measuring, Estimating and Tendering Processes in Construction and the Built Environment

·         Surveying in Construction and Civil Engineering

·         Environmental Science in Construction

·         Building Surveying in Construction

·         Building Regulations and Control in Construction

·         ICT and CAD in Construction and the Built Environment

·         Property Valuation in Construction

·         Employer-Related Project in Construction and the Built Environment

·         Planning Procedures in Construction

·         Property Law in Construction

·         Land Information in Construction

·         Surveying Technology in Construction and Civil Engineering

·         Topographic Surveying in Construction and Civil Engineering

·         Building Conservation

Extras:

·         Induction Work Book (must be completed within first 6 months of the programme

·         Level 2 Key Skill in Communication

·         Level 2 Key Skill in Application of Number
