The Dental Nursing Advanced Apprenticeship is delivered over a two year period. You will attend college one Saturday a month.
Dental nurses support dentists and the other people who look after our teeth. As a dental nursing advanced apprentice, you’ll learn how to carry out a range of duties like preparing the surgery and dental materials, sterilising and preparing instruments, taking notes during examinations, and with special training, taking and processing x-rays. Apprentices may also carry out non-clinical tasks like reception duties, meeting and reassuring patients, and patient education.
You will need good people skills to help make patients feel at ease and communicate with colleagues. You will also be responsible for maintaining health and safety in the work place.
Most dental nurses work in dental surgeries, but you could also work in a hospital, specialist Orthodontist, or even in the armed forces. There are many opportunities for well-qualified dental nurses to progress within the dental sector in dental therapy, hygiene, oral health promotion or dental practise management. You could even move on to related healthcare roles in nursing or radiography.
