The Gas Installation Apprenticeship is delivered over a two year period. You will attend college one day a week.
As a Gas Installation Apprentice you will install, service and repair gas appliances and systems, including:
· Gas Fires
· Boilers and Cookers
· Central Heating Systems
· Shower Units
Your duties as a gas installer will include:
· Installing and connecting appliances to gas, water and electrical supplies
· Carrying out scheduled maintenance checks on systems and equipments
· Testing controls and safety devices to make sure they are working properly
· Searching for and repairing gas leaks, using computerised fault finding equipment
· Replacing or repairing faulty or old parts
· Recording details of work you have carried out
Normal working hours are 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday but you may have to work on a rota if your employer offers 24 hour emergency cover.
You will need to have good communication, organisational and problem solving skills as well as basic IT skills and good maths skills for making calculations. The ability to follow technical layouts and diagrams is important. A polite, friendly and professional manner is also essential.

· Design natural gas systems
· Specify programmes for working on natural gas systems and components
· Plan the work activities for natural gas systems and components
· Commission and de-commission natural gas systems
· Maintain a safe working environment for all natural gas related work
· Apply gas safety measures to domestic natural gas related work activities
· Install complex natural gas systems and components
· Service and maintain complex natural gas systems and components
