Heating & Ventilation

The Heating and Ventilation Apprenticeship is delivered over a two year period. You will attend college one day a week.

As a Heating and Ventilation Apprentice you will install and repair the following systems in homes and businesses:

·         Heating

·         Refrigeration

·         Ventilation

·         Air Conditioning

·         Fume Extraction

Your work could range from fitting air conditioning units in a department store, to installing large industrial boilers in a manufacturing plant. Your duties will include:

·         Following detailed installation plans showing where to fit pipe work

·         Using tools and machinery to bend and shape parts

·         Wiring up systems to electrical control panels

·         Testing installations before they go into use

·         Answering call-outs to find and repair faults

·         Carrying out regular service and maintenance checks for customers

Some tasks could be outside at heights and you would use ladders and scaffolding to reach higher areas.

You will need excellent problem-solving skills and good maths skills for making measurements and calculations.

·         Plan and prepare for routine maintenance

·         De-activate and, re-activate and test system for operation

·         Service and maintain systems and components

Level 2 Certificate in Heating and Ventilating- Maintenance of system components

·         Mechanical engineering service core studies

·         Maintenance of system components

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP
NVQ Level 3 – For learners who are working as or aspiring to be a supervisor

·         Maintain the safe working environment for HVACR work activities

·         Maintain effective working relationships

·         Contribute to the environment of business products and services HVACR activities

·         Plan to rectify/modify systems to meet customer requirements

·         De-commission and re-commission systems

·         Rectify system failure and modify systems

Level 3 Certificate in Heating and Ventilation- Maintenance of System Components

·         Mechanical engineering services core studies

·         Rectification of systems
