The IT Practitioner Apprenticeship is delivered a 15 month period. You will attend college one day a week.
As an IT Practitioner Apprentice you will usually work in the role of an IT Support Technician (although this could vary dependant on your placement). You will help find and correct software and hardware problems for computer users.
As a technician, you could work on site, or remotely by phone, email or by using web-based applications. Your duties will usually include:
· Talking to the client to find out the exact nature of the fault
· Working out the reasons for the fault and explaining these to the user
· Fixing equipment, including printers and scanners
· Installing and setting up new equipment and upgrading existing systems
· Testing and servicing equipment
· Recording problems and their solutions for future reference
· Training clients on new systems or software applications
You will need a thorough knowledge of operating systems, networking, hardware and software. You will need the ability to explain problems and solutions clearly to non-technical users. You will need the ability to prioritise, work under pressure and meet deadlines.

NVQ Level 3 – For learners who are working as or aspiring to be a supervisor

Optional units must then be taken. These are the same as at the Apprenticeship level. However, any units taken at level 2 cannot be taken again at level 3.
