The Motor Vehicle (Light) Apprenticeship is delivered over a 2 year period. You will attend college one day a week.

As a Motor Vehicle (Light) Apprentice you will service and repair cars and vans. You will work on all areas of vehicle mechanics and electrics, from the engine and exhaust systems to the air conditioning and security features.

Your typical duties will include:

·         Finding and identifying faults

·         Advising customers if repairs are needed and how critical they are

·         Providing time and cost estimates for jobs

·         Carrying out repairs and replacing damaged parts

·         Fitting and servicing accessories like radios and alarms

·         Carrying out routine servicing and checks

You will work up to 40 hours a week, Monday to Saturday.

You will need to have an excellent knowledge of motor vehicle technology and have good problem solving skills to find faults. The ability to work quickly and to pay attention to detail will be very important when customers’ have deadlines.

Mandatory Units (all to be taken)

·         Carry out routine vehicle maintenance

·         Remove and replace engine units and components

2 Optional Units then need to be chosen out of a choice of 4

·         Conduct pre and post work vehicle inspections

·         Valet Vehicles

·         Remove and replace vehicle transmission and driveline units and components

·         Remove and replace vehicle chassis units and components

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP
NVQ Level 3

·         Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health & Safety

·         Maintain positive working relationships

·         Diagnose and rectify vehicle engine and component faults

3 Optional Units then need to be chosen out of a choice of 6

·         Inspect Vehicles

·         Identify and agree customer vehicle needs

·         Overhaul mechanical units

·         Diagnose and rectify vehicle transmission and driveline system faults

·         Diagnose and rectify auxiliary equipment electrical faults

·         Diagnose and rectify vehicle chasses system faults
