The Carpentry Apprenticeship is delivered over a 2 year period. You will attend college on block release (1 week every 3-4 weeks).
As a Carpentry Apprentice you will make and install the wooden fixtures and fittings found in household and commercial construction projects. These include floor boards, kitchen and bathroom units, window frames and doors, roof trusses and partitions.
As a Carpenter your work will fall into one of the following categories:
· Formwork: Building temporary shuttering to support setting concrete
· Machining: Cutting and shaping timber for floorboards, skirting boards and window frames
· Bench Joinery: Making and assembling doors, window frames, staircases and fitted furniture
· First Fixing (site work): Fitting the wooden structures EG staircases and partition walls
· Second Fixing (site work): Installing skirting boards, doors, cupboards etc
· Shop Fitting: Making and fitting interiors for shops, hotel, banks, offices and public buildings
Site work and formwork will involve working outdoors in all weathers, up ladders and on scaffolding.
You will need to have good practical skills and a methodical approach to work. You will need to be able to follow technical drawings and plans, whilst have good maths skills for measuring and working out angles.

NVQ Level 2 – For Learners new to this profession
Mandatory Units (all to be taken)
· Conform to general workplace safety
· Conform to efficient practises
· Move and handle resources
3 Optional choices must then be chosen out of:
· Install first fixing components
· Install second fixing components
· Erect structural carcassing components
· Maintain non-structural carpentry work
· Set up and use circular saws
Extras
· Induction workbook
· Technical Certificate
· Level 1 Key Skill in Communication
· Level 1 Key Skill in Application of Number
ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP
NVQ Level 3
Mandatory Units (all to be taken)
· Conform to general workplace safety
· Confirm work activities and resources for the work
· Develop and maintain good working relationships
· Confirm the occupational method of work
· Install first fixing components
· Install second fixing components
2 Optional units must then be taken out of the following:
· Erect structural carcassing components
· Erect complex structural carcassing components
· Maintain non-structural and structural components
· Set up and used fixed or transportable machinery
